Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the group reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Seekers and Planners tables.

Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
